“He urged them to plead for mercy from the God of heaven concerning this mystery…”
What an amazing act of faith. Daniel, along with every other court leader had been sentenced to death by the King, for no fault of their own. Their only offense was not being able to tell the king what he had dreamed.
How many times do we find ourselves in situations where we feel out of control or expected to do the impossible. Daniel is an amazing man of faith. Rather than complaining and pointing out the absurdity of the king’s demand. Daniel quietly and humbly goes to God in prayer and asks for mercy.
“plead for mercy”… He did not cry out to God about the unfairness or the stress or the craziness of the situation, rather he quietly called upon God’s mercy.
What is crazy in your life and making you feel out of your control? How many times today have you thought, that not fair. It may be time to find a quiet place to connect with God and to call upon his mercy for you and your situation.
“I need your mercy, oh my God” What powerful words. Words that remind us that we have a God who is strong and faithful. A God who holds all situations in his hand.
Blessings.

This fall I am teaching a small group Bible Study on the book of Daniel. Each week I will add my thoughts on the chapters in Daniel.
However, as I think about this book and Daniel’s life it strikes me that Daniel lived in uncertain times. He grew up during a time of war and watched his beloved kingdom, slowly come to an end. I am sure he must have wondered where God was in all the political turn of events. I am sure he would have heard about the glory day of the past and how kings of the past were so much better than the present king. He lived through economic melt downs, violence, and religious turmoil.
It strikes me that all these years later little has changed. We too are living through economic melt downs, violence and religious turmoil. We are prone to long for the past and believe that our current situation is not nearly as good as things “use to be”.
However, Daniel believed in a powerful and sovereign God. The ups and downs of his country did not reflect the weakness of God, but rather the consequences of putting God is a small box, that was only opened one day a week and on holidays.
Journey with me as together we are inspired by the words of God as recorded by Daniel.
Let me know your thoughts…I look forward to hearing from you.
